What a great week! Last week was vacation week and I spent it with the girls at Sixberry Lake. Gary came and visited when he could. Gary and I started off the weekend with a trip white water rafting down the Black River. What a fun adventure! The trip was organized through my work and it was extended to friends at Farm Credit and a couple Brandy Brook'ers. The total group that went was probably between 75 and 80 people. Our raft was lucky enough not to loose any rafters. Other than those who choose to jump in the river to cool off. Sorry no pics to share, was to busy trying to stay in the boat.
Speaking of the boat, remember that boat project I mentioned. Well, Gary and Dad gave it another shot the first weekend there. Maybe if we just spoon feed it like a baby it will run? Not so much. After another weekend of working on it with Dad, Gary and my step-brother Dan it went to the marina.
Monday morning I found Kelly teaching her friends a game. How fitting is this game and who's teaching it??
For the afternoon we met up with my sister-in-law and niece at the beach in Alex Bay. Great sand and warm weather. The St. Lawrence River is still colder than the lake. It didn't seem to bother the girls though.
Tuesday was the Lewis County Fair and another parade. This is a well attended fair and we have helped with the Farm Credit float for the past 4-5 years. This was the start of what would have been the float, but had to be switched up after the 30 minute down pour. The whole back was ruined by the rain. It was sad with all the work people put into it. It was suppose to be a movie screen on the red carpet. The movie projector managed to stay in the garage during the rain. The girls of course were the movie stars.
Wednesday was a day of yard work at Dad's. The girls and I pulled weeds and trimmed the shrubs in the front of the house. When it came to checking on the planters, well we didn't touch the corn that was growing... The girls even got a chance to play hide and seek in the field of corn next door with Grandpa. They thought it was pretty neat. Kelly also enjoyed the heifers visiting out back in the afternoon. We tried to get them to come closer to the fence but they weren't interested. No matter how many times she called them.
Thursday was a day spent at the lake. Janey came to visit and we had some adventures with the raft. We decided to try a new spot to "anchor" the raft. Only the anchor didn't anchor and when Gary came up it had broke free. We moved it several times over the weekend and finally put a new cement block and rope on it. I hope it's still there this weekend. We also had visits by our friends the Stine's and while there they found my tire had gone flat. So guess what we did on Friday?? We started the day at Dad's. It was a little cloudy and I wanted to call on the tire first. After a quick call and some time playing at Grandpa's the girls and I went to get the tire repaired.
Saturday morning we decided to have pancakes. We try to do this on Sunday mornings but it seemed like a good time to have them earlier. There weren't any complaints.
And look at this project... Grandpa found instructions on how to make the game "Ladder Ball". Just had to put it together. Here are all the helpers. There was Dan, Janey, Grandpa, Gary, Kelly and Laura.
Kelly showing her strength during the installation. Look at that concentration.
Laura showing her form in the toss. I lost track of how many games were played but am certain it was a hit by the laughter.
And what better way to end a vacation than with a picture of a bathing beauty making mud pies.
